We meet the narrator at the start of the book as searches in vain for Kiki, and old girlfriend who he spent time with at the Dolphin Hotel. He goes back to the Dolphin, he feels like Kiki is somehow calling him. ... Some of the sheepman stuff at the Dolphin Hotel and the style of the writing in that section of the novel was very difficult reading.
